Information about Cooke Associates: Dr ALISON COOKE was a member of the academic staff at Cambridge University Engineering Department from 1991 - 2000, working in Aerodynamics, Design, Manufacturing and Management. She was Director of Sports Engineering research at the Cambridge University Engineering Design Centre, and an industrial tutor and course leader for The Advanced Course in Design, Manufacture and Management (ACDMM) at Cambridge, managing in excess of 120 collaborative projects. From 1991 to 1994 she was the RTZ Industrial Fellow in Manufacturing Strategy. She is currently a sub-editor for the journal, Sports Engineering and has been an Independent Consultant in Management Development and Sports Engineering since 1997. SHARON
JANE DIXON is a Lecturer in Sports Biomechanics at the University
of Exeter. She is responsible for the organisation and running of research
projects in areas of sport and exercise biomechanics, for the delivery
of undergraduate taught modules in sport and exercise science, and for
the supervision of post-graduate research students. Her research interests include the investigation of the influence of shoes, shock-absorbing insoles, and orthotic devices on loading of the human body during running; the influence of playing surfaces on loading and performance; and the prediction of foot movement using pressure distribution measurement. Other interests include distance running, hiking, camping and travelling. She has represented England at cross-country and Great Britain at road running. Dr
JANI MACARI PALLIS is founder and CEO of Cislunar Aerospace, Inc.,
an engineering and research firm located in Napa, California. She is
the principal investigator of "The K-8 Aeronautics Internet Textbook"
and "Aerodynamics in Sports", two educational cooperative
agreements between the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
(NASA) and Cislunar Aerospace, Inc. (http://wings.ucdavis.edu) Her research
has included computational fluid dynamics, hypersonics and parallel
computing. She has conducted research in a variety of marine sports
as well as tennis. She is a member of the International Sport Engineering Association, the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). She has served on the board of directors of the California Association for Aerospace Education. ANGELA TAYLOR taught secondary school English for seven years, then took a career break to begin raising her two children. She is currently working as an editor and has trained through The Publishing Training Centre. She has published poetry in anthologies and in 'I believe', Aneke Kaai / Angela Bryce-Taylor (Paternoster, 1996). TIMOTHY MORAN's latest projects can be found online at www.freelancescientist.com.
